Highland Park has much to offer residents these days and it just keeps on getting better. The unique community is increasing its culture by coming to the assistance of local artist in a fun and imaginative manner. The past few years has brought a variety of new artist into this popular Northeast Los Angeles community. The increasing numbers has resulted in hard times for some artist due to the current economy we are experiencing.
A new exciting program has recently been developed and will begin on Saturday, Jauary 21, at the Ba Restaurant at 5100 York Ave. to help support local artist. You wonder what does soup have to do with it? The answer is a fun competition. Art Soup LA will provide grants through a fun competition. The event this coming Saturday will have a cost of $10 to enter the restaurant and join in the fun.
How does it work? Well the fee allows you a vote and some soup, very simple. Soup is offered by Ba chef James Graham, and presentations of works in progress are shown by the local artists. The showings may be videos, animation, slide shows, puppets, singing, dancing and more. The patrons have soup and view the variety of art that is presented and then cast their vote. The artist that takes first place claims the prize.
The prize is the amount brought in by the total number of patrons coming in for soup and fun. The $10 fee just adds up with the total going to the top artist of the night decided by the soup eaters.
Plan on a fun night and see a part of Highland Park that makes it a unique neighborhood with a great diversity in its residents. The community is filled with older craftsman type homes and modern view homes of all types to satisfy any home buyer. As a local Realtor, it just shows how creative the community can be in supporting its own special group of varied artists.
